Investing is about risk and return. Every investment comes with the possibility of a gain or a loss, and because risk is the measure of the magnitude of the fluctuation in your investment value, there is a direct correlation between your level of risk and how much you possibly can gain - or lose - with the investment.Commonly, we say that the higher the risk, the higher the possibility of larger gains, but similarly, the higher the possibility for large losses.

Be also mindful that you have to pay these fees whether the fund's share price goes up or down.

Risk is the chance that a given investment's return will be different than the return originally expected. We are all familiar with the daily fluctuations of the price of a company stock: the larger the fluctuations, the larger the uncertainty of its future value. This is often interpreted as 'risk'. In technical terms, the risk of an individual investment is the standard deviation of its historical return.
